SRH was the largest commercial radio operator in Scotland and Northern Ireland, both in terms of audience reached, and in the number of stations owned.
In 2001 the company announced its expansion into the English market with its acquisition of the outstanding 60% of the shares in CFM (Carlisle and Cumbria), and its purchase of the regional station in the south of England, Wave 105. The Company also announced at some point that it had acquired the shareholding it did not previously own in Today FM, Ireland’s National station.

In Scotland the SRH stations in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee/Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Ayr, South West Scotland and the Borders provided national Scottish coverage. Downtown and Cool FM covered the whole province of Northern Ireland. Wave 105 covered the major conurbations of Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth. Their commitment to quality broadcasting was recognised in 2001 by the award to Clyde 1 as Sony station of the year.
All group stations were involved with their communities and were proud of the sums raised for Cash for Kids every year.

In addition the group had established a strong reputation for providing “off-air” entertainment for its listeners through major events such as Live + Loud, Scotland’s biggest pop concert.

Each of the SRH stations had their own locally based sales team to help local advertisers. Group sales teams operating on behalf of all SRH stations were based in Glasgow, Edinburgh and London.
